Ousmane Sonko energized thousands of supporters at a rally in Linguère, where he launched a strong critique against the incumbent president’s governance, highlighting a stark disparity between public aspirations and the current political landscape.
This Saturday, Ousmane Sonko convened a significant gathering in Linguère, addressing a large crowd of activists who had assembled to back the Pastef leader. In an assertive address, he openly challenged the current President of the Republic, who had removed him from his position as Prime Minister last May.
“Senegalese did not fight for this outcome”
Before an enthusiastic audience, Ousmane Sonko articulated a profound divergence between the foundational ideals that propelled the movement into power and the present actions of the head of state. In a particularly impactful segment, he emphatically declared: “The Senegalese people did not cast their votes for this. The Senegalese did not struggle for this. Lives were not sacrificed for this. Individuals did not endure imprisonment for this. The Senegalese people fought for systemic change. Yet today, that very system resides within the palace and continues to operate.”
This statement underscores a now undeniable schism between the Pastef leader and the individual currently holding the highest office, directly questioning the administration’s direction, which Sonko perceives as inconsistent with the battles waged during their time in opposition. “That is why I believe he can enlist any mayors or forge alliances with any parties he desires. My appeal is solely to the people. Because in a democracy, there is but one truth, and that truth resides with the people,” he proclaimed, addressing not only his dedicated militants but also the broader Senegalese populace.
