Prominent mrc activist ‘maman kamto’ has died

The dedicated political figure passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, following what was her third stroke in a matter of months.

A period of mourning has begun for the Mouvement pour la renaissance du Cameroun (MRC). The opposition party is grieving the loss of “Maman Kamto,” a committed activist who passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026. Her death was the result of a cerebrovascular accident (CVA).

She first gained national recognition in 2025, during a demonstration held in front of the MRC headquarters at Grand Moulin in Douala, the economic capital of Cameroun. The protest was sparked when Maurice Kamto, returning from a European tour, planned a stop at his party’s regional office in Douala but was prevented from doing so by a police blockade.

As militants gathered to voice their discontent, “Maman Kamto” became a symbol of defiance. Holding a peace branch, she stood her ground against the security forces. It is also known that she was a regular visitor to political prisoners who were incarcerated in the wake of the post-electoral crisis. This story is still developing.
