Starting this Saturday, August 15, 2026, fuel prices in Sénégal will rise significantly. The supercarburant will climb to 990 F CFA per litre, while diesel (gasoil) will reach 755 F CFA per litre. This adjustment follows a sharp increase in global oil prices, driven by ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Global oil market turmoil drives local fuel costs
Over the past month, international fuel markets have experienced dramatic fluctuations. Since July 13, diesel prices have surged by 26.6%, while supercarburant costs have jumped by 12%. Since the conflict escalated, these increases have reached 69% for diesel and 61% for supercarburant.
Government reduces subsidies to stabilize costs
In response to this volatility, the Sénégalese government has decided to roll back fuel subsidies introduced in December 2025. The state had already allocated over 245 billion F CFA in subsidies since January to cushion consumers. The new pricing structure reverts to pre-subsidy levels, balancing economic pressure with affordability.
Without this adjustment, subsidies were projected to swell to nearly 47.27 billion F CFA between August 15 and September 12, 2026. The move aims to prevent further strain on public finances while acknowledging the unavoidable rise in global energy expenses.
