The Sénégal women’s national football team is set to challenge Tunisie in the second round of the qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic Games. This two-legged encounter is scheduled to take place in October 2026.
Details of the African women’s Olympic qualifying tournament
The official draw for the African women’s Olympic football qualifiers was conducted on Wednesday, April 29, mapping out the road to the prestigious games. The entire qualification campaign is slated to run from June 1, 2026, through December 4, 2027.
Competition format and early rounds
The qualification process consists of five rounds of home-and-away matches. The opening round will only involve the six lowest-ranked teams according to FIFA standings:
- Soudan will face the Comores
- Soudan du Sud will play against Madagascar
- Maurice will compete with Djibouti
Most nations will enter the competition during the second round this coming October. Notably, Maroc, the finalists of the most recent Women’s AFCON, will take on Congo. A high-stakes rematch with Nigéria—the reigning African champions who competed in Paris 2024—could occur as early as the third round.
The path to Los Angeles 2028
The winner of the Sénégal and Tunisie clash will advance to face either Mali or Bénin in the subsequent stage. Meanwhile, Algérie will begin their journey toward Los Angeles in the République centrafricaine. Zambie, who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympics, must overcome Ouganda before a potential showdown with Ghana as they aim for their third consecutive Olympic appearance.
