The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a Facebook post, Sonko expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of the revered religious figure and extended his sympathies to the deceased’s family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Sénégal.
« I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » Sonko wrote. « His warmth, generosity, and kindness left a lasting impression on me during my visits to the region. »
The President recalled his multiple encounters with the spiritual leader during official trips to Guinguinéo, emphasizing the late Khalife’s unwavering hospitality and spiritual guidance. These interactions, he noted, had left a profound mark on him.
In this moment of mourning, Sonko offered his « most sincere condolences » to the bereaved family, the Mouride community, the faithful of Guinguinéo, and all Sénégalais.
« May God, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise, » he concluded.
