Chad-Algeria oil partnership advances with Algiers meeting

During a high-level diplomatic engagement in Algiers, the Director-General of Chad’s downstream petroleum regulatory authority, Hassan Adoum Younousmi, held a strategic meeting with Algeria’s Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab. The official gathering took place at the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons headquarters, with key advisors from both delegations present.

Strengthening bilateral ties in the energy sector

This official reception marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing effort to deepen cooperation between Chad and Algeria, particularly in the downstream petroleum industry. The talks centered on critical operational and regulatory priorities, including the oversight of petroleum activities, expansion of energy infrastructure, and the optimization of refining, storage, and distribution networks.

Discussions also addressed industrial safety protocols, the integration of digital solutions across operational workflows, and the implementation of transparent governance frameworks. These initiatives reflect a shared commitment to modernizing the sector while ensuring compliance with international standards.

New cooperation framework takes shape

The meeting follows the signing of a bilateral cooperation protocol on April 23, 2026, between Chad’s ARSAT and Algeria’s hydrocarbon regulatory body. This agreement lays the groundwork for enhanced technical collaboration, institutional alignment, and knowledge exchange—key pillars for strengthening national capacities in the energy domain.

The protocol underscores mutual dedication to fostering sustainable development and reinforcing African economic integration through collaborative energy initiatives.

Vision for a shared energy future

Concluding the discussions, both parties reaffirmed their resolve to nurture the long-standing fraternal relationship between Algeria and Chad. The focus remains on leveraging Algeria’s expertise to accelerate the growth of Chad’s downstream petroleum industry and cultivate local technical expertise.

Hassan Adoum Younousmi stated, “Our partnership with Algeria is a cornerstone of Chad’s strategy to develop a robust, self-sufficient petroleum sector while aligning with global best practices.”
