The legal grievance launched against Ousmane Sonko regarding his controversial declarations about the holy city of Touba remains fully active. Serigne Makhtar Bousso, acting as the representative for the plaintiffs, formally reiterated the legal action this Tuesday while answering questions from investigators at the Sûreté Urbaine.
Clarification demanded over alleged illicit funds in Touba
The legal petition originally landed on the desk of the public prosecutor on July 14, 2026, submitted by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang alongside Serigne Mourtalla Bousso. Both individuals identify as grandsons of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba. They take strong exception to public utterances delivered by the President of the National Assembly during the opening ceremony of the Pastef party premises in Mbacké, where Ousmane Sonko claimed that laundered funds had circulated into Touba.
Defending the holy city’s moral standing
The plaintiffs emphasize that such pronouncements inflict damage on the standing and prestige of Touba, a religious capital established by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba on principles of spiritual uprightness and integrity. Consequently, the petitioners want the author of these accusations to give an account of their exact scope and supply tangible proof to substantiate his claims. Serigne Makhtar Bousso insisted on this requirement, demanding complete transparency concerning any assertions made against the sacred city.
