Entretien de Ousmane Sonko sur RFI et France 24 ce lundi 15 juin

Ousmane Sonko, the prominent leader of Pastef and current President of the National Assembly, has addressed inquiries regarding his potential candidacy for the 2029 presidential elections, maintaining a cautious stance on the matter.

He emphasized that any discussion about a presidential bid at this juncture is highly premature. Sonko highlighted that while he observes various initiatives promoting his candidacy for 2029, he prefers to await the appropriate moment. He underscored the institutional process within his political party, stating, “I see many initiatives speaking of Ousmane Sonko’s candidacy in 2029, and I would like to wait for the right time, because I have a political party that will nominate the candidate it wishes to invest. We are not there yet.”

Regarding the possibility of President Diomaye Faye seeking re-election in 2029, Ousmane Sonko clarified that he does not concern himself with the incumbent president’s electoral plans. He affirmed that President Faye has his own trajectory to follow, just as he has his own. Sonko concluded by stating he would not speculate further on a potential candidacy from the sitting president.
