As Chad prepares for its 66th independence anniversary on August 11, 2026, Pahimi Padacké Albert, who leads the National Rally of Chadian Democrats (RNDT-Le Réveil) and serves as the opposition’s prominent figure, has issued a profound call for national unity, appeasement, and reconciliation.
In his address commemorating this significant national observance, the former Prime Minister articulated his message to the Chadian populace with a spirit of «humility, gravity, and profound responsibility.»
Padacké Albert conveyed his belief that this year’s independence celebration unfolds amidst a political landscape fraught with underlying tensions and widespread frustrations. «We commemorate our freedom this year within an atmosphere of silent yet oppressive political tension, and deep-seated frustrations fueled by a pervasive sense of multidimensional exclusion,» he stated.
Responding to this challenging environment, the head of RNDT-Le Réveil advocated strongly for increased dialogue and greater political openness. «Today, I once again responsibly appeal for unity, for calm, for a spirit of openness, and for the reconciliation of hearts across our nation,» he reiterated.
Within his comprehensive message, Pahimi Padacké Albert specifically addressed President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, urging him to implement decisive measures aimed at strengthening national cohesion.
«On the eve of this significant commemoration,» he declared, «I solemnly call upon all Chadians, and foremost among them, the Marshal of Chad, President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno: May robust decisions be taken to overcome feelings of exclusion and to further unite our people within the Chadian family. May the constitutional powers available to the Head of State be fully utilized to restore freedom to political figures who do not belong in prison. May a genuine political opening, founded on frank, fraternal, and patriotic discussions, solidify this drive for appeasement, all while respecting the rich political, cultural, and religious diversities of the daughters and sons of our nation.»
