The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, addressed the nation following the Constitutional Council’s decision to declare unconstitutional the reform law recently passed by lawmakers. As the leader of the Pastef movement, he acknowledged the ruling of the Seven Sages, stressing that the verdict « must be respected by all » without exception.
« Beyond any interpretations or opinions on the reasoning behind this decision, one fact remains undeniable: this ruling applies to everyone. We accept it without reservation, » Ousmane Sonko stated in an official statement.
In his remarks, the National Assembly leader emphasized the importance of institutional balance. « When each branch of government fulfills its constitutional duties within its designated authority, no crisis can arise, » he noted.
Ousmane Sonko also reaffirmed the parliament’s commitment to its legislative mission. « The National Assembly will continue to exercise its duties fully. Laws will be debated, adopted, or rejected in service of the Senegalese people, who deserve nothing less than dignity and honor, » he declared.
