The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has publicly acknowledged the Constitutional Council’s ruling that declared unconstitutional the reform bill passed by lawmakers. The leader of the Pastef movement accepted the verdict of the « Seven Sages » as binding on all institutions.
« Whatever interpretations may arise from the reasoning behind this decision, one fact remains undeniable: its authority is absolute and applies to everyone. So be it, » Sonko stated in an official statement.
In his remarks, he emphasized that this episode underscores the importance of institutional roles being respected. « When each institution fulfills its mandate within its defined scope, no crisis can emerge, » he noted.
Sonko reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to carrying out its duties without interruption. « The National Assembly will continue to exercise its full responsibilities: laws will be adopted or rejected to honor the commitments made to our resilient and honorable citizens, » he declared.
