In a heartfelt tribute, Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, conveyed his deep sorrow following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké. The revered religious leader, who served as the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, died on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
The announcement of his death was met with an outpouring of grief from across Senegal, as Sonko took to Facebook to pay his respects. In a poignant message, he extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the general Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the esteemed Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo,” Sonko wrote in his tribute. He went on to share personal reflections on his encounters with the late religious figure, recalling the warmth and kindness that defined their interactions.
“During my visits to Guinguinéo, I had the honor of meeting Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké on multiple occasions. Each meeting left a lasting impression, marked by his genuine affection, generous hospitality, and unwavering benevolence,” Sonko shared.
In this moment of sorrow, Sonko extended his “deepest and most sincere condolences” to the family of the late Khalife, the Mouride community, the residents of Guinguinéo, and the people of Senegal. His message concluded with a prayer: “May Allah, in His infinite mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise.”
