Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya and the UDC speak out against inhumane treatment of a citizen
The Union démocratique du Cameroun (UDC) has expressed deep concern following reports that political activist Jacques Bertrand Mang was subjected to torture and degrading treatment. Led by President Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya, the party issued a firm condemnation of these practices, which are strictly prohibited by the Cameroonian Constitution. The UDC emphasized that if these allegations are confirmed, they represent a severe breach of fundamental rights and the principles of a state governed by law.
In an official statement, the political organization asserted that no level of civic engagement or personal disagreement can justify the use of violence or cruel treatment. Consequently, the UDC is calling upon the authorities to launch a transparent investigation into the matter to ensure the physical and moral safety of Jacques Bertrand Mang and to guarantee that his legal rights are fully respected.
Jacques Bertrand Mang is a well-known figure for his vocal stance on social inequality, the daily struggles of Cameroonians, and governance issues. The latest controversy surrounding the activist stems from an incident on June 30, 2026, in the city of Douala, where he was allegedly mistreated within a police station. During a live broadcast on his Facebook page, Mang was seen pleading with officers for his release. The officers reportedly refused to let him leave, claiming he could not depart while in an agitated state, and forced him to wait for a superior officer despite his repeated attempts to exit the premises.
This is not the first time the activist has faced such challenges. Jacques Bertrand Mang has previously been detained and even forcibly admitted to a medical facility for psychiatric evaluation against his will. His outspoken videos on social media frequently target various sectors of the administration, including the police, gendarmerie, customs, and municipal authorities, as well as high-ranking politicians and public figures. Recent reports indicate that he has been placed in police custody.
