After hosting the 14th ministerial conference of the World Trade Organization and the visit of Pope Leo XIV, Cameroun is now preparing for a third major international gathering this year. The 51st general assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) is scheduled to take place in Yaoundé from 7 to 12 July 2026.

In this context, Cameroun’s ambassador to France, André-Magnus Ekoumou, met with the president of the National Assembly, Théodore Datouo. Their discussions focused on the country’s readiness for the event.

Both sides expressed confidence in Cameroun’s ability to meet the challenge, in line with the directives of President Paul Biya.

At the Cameroun embassy in France, special measures have been put in place to facilitate the issuance of courtesy visas for all expected delegations.

During the meeting, the president of the National Assembly stressed the need to strengthen parliamentary democracy and praised the diplomat for his support of Camerounians living in France, particularly regarding their participation in Promote 2026, the major business event taking place at the Yaoundé Conference Centre.

The discussions also covered ongoing plans to establish a parliamentary museum at the National Assembly. The speaker expressed a desire to draw on French expertise through the sharing of experiences and best practices, with a particular focus on the digitalisation of the future museum.

One of the key issues of the session will be the election of a new secretary general for the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF), with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda as the main candidates from the African continent.
