The recent visit by Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, head of state for Madagascar, to N’Djamena, Chad, centered on two primary objectives: bolstering bilateral relations and effectively engaging the Malagasy diaspora. A significant meeting was convened with approximately twenty Malagasy nationals residing in Chad. President Randrianirina, also known as the President of the Refondation, emphasized the critical role of the diaspora, stating, “The diaspora represents a vital asset for Madagascar. Their expertise and contributions must be further recognized and leveraged.”
Fostering economic and professional exchanges
Beyond direct engagement with expatriates, the diplomatic mission aimed to invigorate economic and professional collaborations between Madagascar and Chad. Discussions highlighted the importance of facilitating the movement of skilled professionals and sharing valuable experiences as key mechanisms to amplify Madagascar’s influence and presence across the African continent.The itinerary also included participation in Chad’s 66th independence anniversary celebrations, held yesterday in N’Djamena. Colonel Michaël Randrianirina attended the commemorative events at the invitation of Marshal Idriss Mahamat, the President of Chad, alongside General Horta N’Tam, the President of Guinea-Bissau. President Randrianirina characterized this gathering as a prime opportunity to “enhance intra-African cooperation.” He further revealed that the Chadian President has expressed a keen interest in visiting Madagascar to engage in discussions and identify new avenues for partnership between the two nations.
