Chad strengthens anti-human trafficking measures

The Chadian government is ramping up its battle against human trafficking, particularly targeting women and children, through stricter enforcement of existing laws. A circular notice has been dispatched to security and judicial officials to underscore the urgency of this campaign and outline specific enforcement actions.

Human trafficking remains a severe violation of fundamental human rights, often manifesting in sexual exploitation and forced labor. Chad, a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime since 2009, has enacted several key legal frameworks to combat this scourge, including Ordonnance Nº006/PR/2018 and Loi Nº12/PR/2018.

Legal and institutional framework reinforced

To streamline the fight against trafficking, authorities are instructed to expedite investigations, compile detailed reports, and ensure cases are promptly transferred to competent courts. All cases must also be reported to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and the National Commission for the Fight against Human Trafficking for thorough monitoring and follow-up.

The provincial delegates have been tasked with ensuring these directives are strictly implemented. This coordinated effort aims to establish a national database that will serve as the foundation for a robust, evidence-based anti-trafficking strategy across Chad.
