DNCG imposes salary cap and transfer fee restrictions on Marseille, Lyon confirmed in Ligue 1
France’s football financial watchdog announces constraints both Olympique clubs must follow for the upcoming season.
Both clubs were under close watch, and the decision has now been announced. This Friday, the DNCG revealed the restrictions Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais must comply with during the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. For Marseille, the National Directorate of Management Control of the LFP ruled for “encadrement of the salary mass and transfer indemnities.”
Lyon, meanwhile, also faces a “salary mass encadrement within the recovery budget following the change of club control.” This announcement comes after the Professional Club Control Commission examined the clubs’ situations for the upcoming season. In a press conference, Michele Kang confirmed Lyon’s place in Ligue 1 and that she becomes the majority shareholder of the Rhône-based club.
Marseille already sanctioned by UEFA
For Marseille, this decision comes less than ten days after UEFA fined the club €10 million for breaching financial fair play rules. The Marseillais knew they were in the crosshairs of French football’s financial watchdog.
The DNCG had announced on Tuesday that it requested “additional elements” from the Marseille club, whose finances were weakened by a difficult 2025-2026 season on all fronts. In 2021 and again in 2023, the Olympian club had already been subjected to salary mass encadrement.
