Olympique Lyonnais faces critical decision point for Ligue 1 clash with Auxerre
The Olympique Lyonnais (OL) will have their Ligue 1 fixture against AJ Auxerre confirmed only after their UEFA Champions League qualifier against Sparta Prague reaches its conclusion. The French football governing body has already announced the provisional schedule for eight Ligue 1 matches spanning from September 3 to September 6, but OL’s fourth league game remains conspicuously absent from the calendar.
The Rhône-Alpes side’s absence from this initial schedule is deliberate. Their fourth match’s exact date depends entirely on whether they advance past the Czech champions. The LFP confirmed that the OL-Auxerre fixture will be finalized based on the outcome of Lyon’s Champions League third qualifying round against Sparta Prague.
Two possible dates for the postponed fixture
Under Paulo Fonseca’s management, OL face Sparta Prague away on August 20 at 20:00 CEST in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier. The reverse fixture at Parc OL will follow on August 27, with the kickoff time yet to be announced.
Following this decisive double-header, the Ligue 1 programming committee will determine the exact date of OL’s fourth league match against Auxerre. The French football league has outlined two possible scenarios:
- In case of qualification: The match will be scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026, at 19:00 CEST and broadcast exclusively on Ligue 1+
- If eliminated: The fixture will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 20:45 CEST, also on Ligue 1+
