Led by the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces, a high-ranking Moroccan military delegation concluded a two-day working visit to Mauritania this week, strengthening bilateral defense ties between the two nations.
General Mohammed Berrid, who also commands Morocco’s Southern Zone, was received by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani in the capital, Nouakchott. The meeting took place in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, as confirmed by official statements from the Royal Armed Forces’ General Staff.
On the same day, the Moroccan delegation met with Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. In a gesture of recognition for the delegation’s efforts, the Minister presented General Berrid with the Commander Grade National Merit Order medal, awarded on behalf of the Mauritanian President.
Later, General Berrid joined Mauritanian Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces to co-chair the sixth session of the Mixed Military Commission. Discussions centered on reviewing past achievements and outlining future collaborative initiatives in military cooperation.
Both sides highlighted the strong and productive nature of their military partnership, describing it as a benchmark for strategic alliances in the region. The talks underscored shared commitments to regional security and defense coordination.
