During this official engagement, General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, received a warm welcome in Nouakchott on Tuesday. The meeting took place with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani of Mauritania, alongside Ambassador Hamid Chabar of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Later that same day, the Moroccan military delegation visited the Ministry of Defense in Nouakchott, where General Berrid held productive discussions with Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. In a symbolic gesture, the Minister presented General Berrid with the National Order of Merit (Commander grade) on behalf of the President of Mauritania.
The high-level visit continued with the joint chairing of the sixth session of the Mauritania-Morocco Joint Military Commission by General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff. Military officials from both nations reviewed the progress of their strategic partnership, highlighting the tangible outcomes of their defense cooperation.
Both sides underscored the remarkable achievements in bilateral military collaboration, describing it as a model of strategic partnership in the region. The discussions reinforced the commitment to deepen defense ties and explore new avenues for joint initiatives.
