Morocco Mauritania defense ties strengthen during high-level military visit

The Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), General Mohammed Berrid, led a high-level military delegation to Mauritania this week, marking a significant step in bilateral defense cooperation. On Tuesday, General Berrid was welcomed by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani in Nouakchott, accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar.

Following the meeting with the President, General Berrid visited the Ministry of Defense headquarters, where he engaged in discussions with Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. In a gesture of deep appreciation, the Minister presented General Berrid with the Commander grade of the National Order of Merit, awarded in recognition of his contributions to strengthening military ties between the two nations.

Later that day, General Berrid, alongside Mauritania’s Chief of Staff, co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. The discussions highlighted the remarkable progress in military collaboration between Morocco and Mauritania, with both sides emphasizing the tangible outcomes achieved through this strategic partnership.
