Ousmane Sonko assures Senegal’s stability: ‘Nothing will move in this country’

Facing mounting media and political agitation, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko forcefully reaffirmed the strength of Senegal’s institutions and the preservation of public order. Backed by his parliamentary majority, he asserts that the National Assembly will remain the absolute guarantor of national stability.

The message is firm, uncompromising, and reassuring. In a direct statement to the Senegalese people, Ousmane Sonko dismissed rumors of tensions and specters of crises often circulated in public discourse. For the head of government, Senegal’s stability is non-negotiable and will not be shaken under any circumstances.

Calling current tensions mere “storms in teacups,” Ousmane Sonko condemned the agitation prevalent online and in parts of the press, where some predict gridlock in the National Assembly or risks of conflict. “Nothing will move in this country, nothing, absolutely nothing,” he insisted emphatically.

To support his stance, the President of the National Assembly recalled the political legitimacy underpinning his actions: a majority political formation, broad popularity, and massive support from Senegalese youth. This bloc, he stated, is the natural bulwark against any destabilization attempts.

Beyond security rhetoric, the President of the National Assembly emphasized the country’s democratic foundation and the state’s impartiality. He reminded that official and judicial decisions “will apply to everyone” without exception, ruling out any form of abuse of power.

Senegal’s political future and direction will be decided exclusively through peaceful and democratic means. Ousmane Sonko concluded by affirming that Senegalese citizens “will go calmly to each election” to freely choose their leaders and express their sovereignty.
