Senegalese political shift: ministers abandon Pastef for president Diomaye
A significant political realignment is unfolding in Senegal as three prominent ministers, including Yankhoba Diémé, have publicly declared their departure from Pastef to lend their support to President Diomaye. They have candidly described Ousmane Sonko’s former party as nothing more than an “empty shell,” signaling a profound shift in the nation’s political landscape.
Ministers Ibrahima Sy, Yankhoba Diémé, and Alioune Dione have unequivocally distanced themselves from Pastef. These individuals, who were once active allies of Ousmane Sonko before his departure from the primature, have now made definitive political choices.
Their decision was resolute. Despite their past as fervent opponents of Macky Sall and staunch supporters of Ousmane Sonko in his earlier struggles, they have now chosen to prioritize “the Republic” over any perceived personal interests.
“Nothing is left of Pastef. It has become an empty shell,” asserted Yankhoba Diémé, who previously served as Pastef’s departmental coordinator in Bignona, in a pointed declaration. Echoing this sentiment, Alioune Dione, a former political leader for Pastef in Diourbel, affirmed, “I, along with all my brothers, commit to joining and becoming part of President Diomaye’s party.”
