In a strategic move to oversee the nation’s pivotal road network modernization initiatives, Georges Alé, the Minister of Living Environment and Transport, conducted a comprehensive inspection tour last Tuesday across three vital construction sites in Bénin. The core objectives of this field visit centered on ensuring stringent technical quality, upholding environmental protection standards, safeguarding public health, and strictly adhering to contractual timelines.
The ministerial delegation’s initial stop was at the Djonou bridge, situated within the Abomey-Calavi commune. At this location, dredging operations have been successfully brought to completion. This critical intervention has effectively cleared the waterway, facilitating enhanced rainwater drainage and significantly bolstering the structural integrity and safety of the bridge itself.
Minister Alé then proceeded to the construction site for the 2×2 lane expansion of the Missessinto-Allada section (RNIE2), a project being executed by the joint venture SCET Tunisie / BECI BTP. While commending the commendable progress and positive momentum of the works, Georges Alé underscored the imperative of meticulously following the agreed-upon schedule. His emphasis was on swiftly delivering a modern and secure thoroughfare for the benefit of all road users.
The inspection concluded at the Allada roundabout and the associated water retention basins developed in the vicinity. Demonstrating a keen interest in sanitation matters, the minister directed the technical teams to forge close collaboration with the Ministry of Health. This proactive approach aims to anticipate and mitigate any potential health hazards that could arise from stagnant water accumulation.
