Chad and Burkina Faso unite to combat growing terrorism threat
In response to escalating security challenges sweeping across the Sahel, Chad and Burkina Faso have taken a decisive step by reaffirming their commitment to deepen defense cooperation. The move comes as both nations face mounting pressure from terrorist groups operating across their borders.
A high-level delegation from Chad’s Ministry of Public Security and Immigration, led by Police Commissioner Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man, arrived in Ouagadougou on Wednesday for critical discussions with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana.
The closed-door meetings focused on identifying strategic pathways to enhance bilateral security collaboration, with a sharp emphasis on counter-terrorism efforts. A statement from Chad’s Ministry of Public Security outlined the outcomes of the visit, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated action.
Following the talks, Mbaï-Naïssem Isaac Chamir, Legal Advisor to Chad’s Minister of Public Security and a member of the visiting delegation, described the gathering as a preparatory forum ahead of a major joint cooperation commission between the two countries. This commission is expected to formalize their united front against the shared threat of terrorism.
Chamir emphasized that this initiative reflects the strong determination of both nations to leverage their shared historical ties and operational experiences to build a security framework tailored to the realities of the Sahel. He praised the warm reception from Burkinabe authorities while expressing hope that this momentum would translate into a robust, sustainable, and mutually beneficial security partnership—one that fully respects each nation’s sovereignty.
The joint statement confirmed that this newly forged cooperation would advance through structured bilateral engagement, particularly within the framework of the upcoming joint commission. This platform is set to further solidify collaboration between Chad and Burkina Faso, ensuring a more coordinated and effective response to regional security threats.
