In a charged address delivered to his supporters in Bambey this past Saturday, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the PASTEF party, issued a stern warning about anticipated attempts to destabilize his movement. He cautioned that his camp could face deliberate provocations designed to fracture its unity and undermine its momentum ahead of upcoming political developments.
Sonko emphasized that certain actions may specifically target him personally, with the explicit aim of eliciting reactions from his base and sowing unrest across the nation. « They will resort to every kind of provocation, some directly against me, » he declared. « They may even try to misuse state institutions to achieve their goals. »
The opposition figure went further, suggesting that key adversaries believe weakening his leadership is the most effective way to destabilize both PASTEF and the country. « Their calculations are clear: if they want to shake the party or the nation, they must come after Sonko first, » he stated firmly.
Addressing concerns over administrative hurdles, Sonko also criticized what he described as growing restrictions on party activities—particularly the organization of membership drives. Yet, he reassured the public that Senegal will not revert to the era of deep political unrest it recently experienced. « As long as I am here, Senegal will never relive that dark chapter, » he asserted. « No amount of manipulation can change that. »
His remarks come amid a shifting political landscape, marked by the emergence of a new ruling party led by Bassirou Diomaye Faye and ongoing discussions about the future of Senegal’s political forces.
