President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has inaugurated his new political movement, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains, seizing the moment to deliver a pointed message that many observers believe is aimed directly at his former Prime Minister. The head of state issued a clear admonition, stating: « Fii, saa fitnë dootufi nanee ñeex ». This powerful declaration can be interpreted as: “Here, from now on, what was once tolerated will no longer be permitted.”
This significant pronouncement by the founder of KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains underscores Senegal’s enduring commitment to stability and lasting peace. The President’s address comes amidst a period of escalating tension between the two prominent figures of the executive branch, marking a critical phase in the restructuring of the presidential majority and the emergence of this new political entity.
The statement follows several months of discernible disagreements between President Faye and his former head of government. These divergences have been evident in the distinct tones of their respective public addresses and culminated in the definitive separation between the presidential coalition and Pastef, the party led by Ousmane Sonko.
Concurrently, Ousmane Sonko, as the leader of Pastef, has been actively engaged in his own political drive, launching a membership card campaign with his associates in recent days, further highlighting the dynamic and evolving political landscape in Senegal.
