As Morocco celebrated its 27th Throne Day, King Mohammed VI received a message from US President Donald Trump, reaffirming Washington’s unwavering stance on the Western Sahara dispute and its endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy plan.
In his correspondence, Donald Trump stated that the United States recognizes Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and supports the kingdom’s autonomy proposal, describing it as “serious, credible, and realistic—the only viable foundation for a just and lasting solution.”
He warned that any alternative approach would perpetuate the status quo, calling it “unacceptable.” Trump emphasized that the conflict must conclude promptly, pledging that the US would continue driving progress toward that outcome.
Beyond geopolitical alignment, the American president celebrated the “250-year history of friendship and trust” between the two nations. He praised King Mohammed VI’s leadership, hailing it as a cornerstone of regional stability.
The message also highlighted Morocco’s contributions to peacebuilding, counterterrorism, and shared security—particularly through the Abraham Accords. Trump further announced plans to deepen cooperation to bolster stability in the Sahel region.
On the economic front, he directed US officials to prioritize partnerships in sectors like technology, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense. These initiatives aim to foster sustainable development across Morocco, including Western Sahara.
Concluding his remarks, Trump declared, “Together, we will forge a new era of progress, one rooted in mutual prosperity and shared priorities.”
