An armed assault by the extremist group Boko Haram has targeted a military outpost in the southeastern region of Niger, leaving a significant number of casualties among national forces.
Attack targets military position in n’guigmi
The violent incursion occurred on Friday morning in the vicinity of N’Guigmi, a strategic garrison town situated along the Lake Chad basin—a vast wetland region bordering Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. Local sources report that the assault resulted in the deaths of approximately ten soldiers, while additional military personnel sustained injuries.
Residents of N’Guigmi took to social media to confirm the attack, stating that the assault also claimed the lives of four members of the national guard. The offensive was swiftly followed by counter-military operations, with authorities conducting sweeping clearance missions in the area to neutralize remaining threats.

N’Guigmi has become a focal point for insurgent activity since Boko Haram began its campaign of violence in 2009. The town now serves as a key operational hub for the group, which shares influence with the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).
