In Cameroon, opposition leader Joshua Osih is pushing for strict adherence to the electoral calendar. The SDF president insists the timeline is a matter for citizens, not the government.

During a press briefing on July 23, SDF leader Joshua Osih called on the government to respect the electoral calendar without delay. To pressure the RDPC administration into holding elections, he urged all opposition parties—regardless of political leanings—to unite in a common front to defend this fundamental right.

“Elections must proceed—no further delays. The electoral calendar belongs to the people, not the government. I urge the entire opposition to form a united front on this demand,” Osih declared. So far, no opposition figures have publicly responded to his appeal.

Osih’s demand follows months after the postponement of municipal and legislative elections. The government cited financial, logistical, and security constraints, along with calendar adjustments, as reasons for the delay. The legislative proposal was approved by the National Assembly, and a decree signed by President Paul Biya took effect in June 2026, extending the mandate until February 2027.
