Malian Armed Forces Report Significant Gains Against Armed Groups in Northern Mali
In a decisive military operation conducted on Tuesday, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) reported neutralizing a substantial number of armed combatants in the northern regions of Anfif and Tabrachat. The coordinated strikes, executed in partnership with allied forces, resulted in the elimination of approximately 100 fighters affiliated with two prominent armed groups operating in the area.
According to the official statement released by the military command, the targeted groups included the Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM) and the Front de Libération de l’Azawad (FLA). The operations encompassed 13 precision airstrikes, which not only neutralized the fighters but also led to the destruction of six armored vehicles and a pickup truck used by the militants.
The Malian military emphasized that these operations are part of an ongoing, systematic campaign to dismantle armed factions across the country. In their communication, the armed forces reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a disciplined and resolute approach in their counter-insurgency efforts, working closely with international partners to ensure sustained progress.
Allied Forces Contribute to Operational Success
The African Corps played a pivotal role in these operations, as confirmed by their separate statement on the social media platform X. Their forces contributed by targeting and destroying a significant portion of the militants’ vehicle fleet, including a vehicle transporting critical munitions and military equipment, which was successfully intercepted and neutralized by one of their drones.
The Russian Africa Corps also highlighted their involvement, describing the operations as a series of “fruitful joint military efforts” alongside the Malian Armed Forces. The Corps reiterated their dedication to continuing these targeted strikes, focusing on both the positions and the logistical capabilities of the armed groups to weaken their operational capacity in the region.
