After a standout season in Ligue 1 with RC Lens, Malian midfielder Mamadou Sangaré is set to embark on his next chapter with Premier League side Brentford. The 24-year-old, who joined Lens last summer from Rapid Wien, has signed a five-year deal with the London club, reportedly becoming Brentford’s most expensive signing ever.
The transfer, though not yet officially priced, has drawn attention after British media estimated its value at over €45 million—a figure that underscores the high demand for the young talent.
Sangaré’s departure from Lens follows a remarkable campaign where he cemented his place in the starting lineup, lifted the Coupe de France, and claimed the Marc-Vivien Foé Trophy, awarded to the best African player in French football.
Brentford’s manager, Keith Andrews, praised the midfielder’s qualities, stating, “We’ve had Mamadou on our radar for some time… He perfectly matches what we look for in a Brentford player, both on and off the pitch. I’m confident he’ll quickly win over the fans.”
Meanwhile, RC Lens reflected fondly on Sangaré’s contributions, describing his season as “full of emotion” and wishing him success in his future endeavors. Born in Bamako, the player was scouted by Red Bull Salzburg after shining at Yeelen Olympique, a club based in Mali’s capital.
