A delegation from the UNESCO Mali office, led by its Acting Head and Representative Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane, attended the official launch ceremony of the 32nd national reforestation campaign in Bamako on 26 July 2026. Held at the Palais des Pionniers, the ceremony was presided over by General Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the Transitional President.

The event drew participation from government officials, national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, and women’s and youth associations. It also brought together a wide range of actors committed to environmental protection, sustainable resource management, and climate change mitigation.

Under the banner ‘Youth at the Heart of Environmental Citizenship for a Greener, More Resilient Mali,’ this 32nd edition reinforces national efforts to restore ecosystems, combat desertification, and preserve natural resources. A key focus is on citizen mobilization, particularly among young people, as pivotal agents of ecological transition. The campaign aims to plant 21 million trees nationwide during the rainy season, contributing to the vision of a greener, more resilient Mali.

By participating in this initiative, UNESCO reaffirms its dedication to supporting Mali through community awareness, capacity-building for local actors, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
